English Lecturer

£42,477 - £44,969

A full-time FE English teaching role with real purpose

If you're passionate about helping post-16 learners build confidence, make progress and succeed in English, this is an opportunity to make a real difference at Leeds College of Building. You'll join our cross-college English team, teaching GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English to 16–18 learners, apprentices and adults.

We're particularly keen to hear from teachers with strong GCSE English and Functional Skills teaching skills who understand the opportunities and challenges of Further Education and can motivate learners with a wide range of starting points.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver engaging, well-planned GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English lessons.
  • Teach post-16 learners with a range of starting points, needs and ambitions, including 16–18 students, apprentices and adult learners.
  • Use strong subject knowledge and effective teaching strategies to help learners develop the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills they need to progress.
  • Build positive relationships that motivate learners to attend, participate, persevere and achieve.
  • Monitor progress and use assessment to identify gaps, provide targeted support and help learners prepare confidently for assessment and examinations.
  • Work collaboratively with English and vocational colleagues to remove barriers to learning and improve learner outcomes.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic FE English teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with patience, energy and the ability to connect with post-16 learners. You'll be confident teaching both GCSE English Language and Functional Skills and committed to helping learners who may not have succeeded in English first time around.
