Principal Structural Engineer

Location: Leeds | Established Engineering Consultancy

The Opportunity

An established, employee-owned civil and structural engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join its Leeds office.

With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across a diverse range of sectors, the consultancy continues to experience growth, supported by an expanding client base and a healthy pipeline of projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious structural engineer to take on a senior technical and leadership position within a progressive business, contributing to the delivery of complex building structures projects while playing an important role in the continued growth of the consultancy.

For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to progress into senior management or Director level, offering the chance to influence business strategy, strengthen client relationships and help develop the next generation of engineering talent.

The Role

As Principal Structural Engineer, you will lead the technical delivery and management of building structures projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary design teams to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of building structures projects from concept through to completion.
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership to engineers within the team.
  • Managing project programmes, resources and technical deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated engineering solutions.
  • Supporting business development activities and contributing to the continued growth of the consultancy.
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers, helping to build future technical and management capability.

About You

We are keen to hear from experienced Senior or Principal Structural Engineers who combine strong technical expertise with the ambition to take on greater leadership and commercial responsibility.

You will ideally have:

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or be approaching professional qualification, with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
  • A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in building structures engineering.
  • A proven track record of delivering building structures projects with construction values of up to £75 million.
  • Excellent structural design and analytical skills.
  • Experience with relevant design software, including TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Fastrack Portal Frame, CADS Wall Panel, P Frame and Masterseries Retaining Wall.
  • The ability to manage projects effectively through all stages of design and delivery.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to develop client relationships and contribute to the wider success of a business.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is more than simply another engineering position. As part of an employee-owned consultancy, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the business and play a key role in shaping its future.

The successful candidate can expect the opportunity to:

  • Join a well-established consultancy with an expanding workload and client base.
  • Work on a varied portfolio of building structures projects across multiple sectors.
  • Take on a senior position with real influence over technical delivery and project performance.
  • Develop leadership, management and business development experience.
  • Progress towards senior management or Director level as the business continues to grow.
  • Build a long-term career within a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering environment.

Next Steps

If you are an experienced Structural Engineer looking for your next career move and would welcome the opportunity to combine technical leadership with a clear pathway towards senior management, this could be an excellent opportunity to explore.
