Job Title: Scala Developer

Daily Rate: £380 a day inside IR35

Contract Type: Contract

Security Clearance: BPSS

Location: Hybrid / Remote – Leeds (2 days onsite per month, including an overnight stay)

We are looking for an experienced Scala Developer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme.

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable applications using Scala.
• Build and enhance backend services, APIs and microservices.
• Write clean, efficient, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Collaborate with developers, technical architects, DevOps engineers, testers and business stakeholders.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews and solution development.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to improve application performance and reliability.
• Support CI/CD processes and automated software deployments.
• Contribute to the development of secure, resilient and high-performing digital services.
• Work within Agile delivery teams, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups and retrospectives.
• Follow software engineering best practices and contribute to continuous improvement.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong commercial experience in Scala development.
• Solid understanding of functional programming principles.
• Experience developing backend applications and services.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Experience using Git and modern development tools.
• Familiarity with Scala build tools such as sbt.
• Understanding of automated testing and software quality practices.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery processes.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively within a distributed team.
