Logistics Consultant

We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Logistics Consultant to support the assessment, development and improvement of logistics and supply chain operations. The role will involve working on-site with clients and internal stakeholders to identify operational challenges, develop practical solutions and deliver measurable improvements in service, cost, efficiency and performance. The role will function as both an external consultant to new clients and internal consultant within existing business.

The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of logistics operations and supply chain management, with the ability to analyse existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement and support the implementation of effective solutions. Areas of focus may include transport, warehousing, inventory management, distribution, systems and technology, operational performance and supply chain optimisation.

This is an opportunity for an adaptable individual who combines analytical capability with practical operational experience and strong stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Assessment and Improvement: Review existing logistics and supply chain operations to identify inefficiencies, operational risks and opportunities to improve service delivery, productivity and performance.
  • Process Optimisation: Analyse and redesign logistics processes across transport, warehousing, distribution, inventory and fulfilment to improve operational effectiveness and consistency.
  • Cost and Performance Optimisation: Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, improve resource utilisation and enhance service levels while maintaining appropriate quality and compliance standards.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse operational and commercial data, develop performance metrics and dashboards, and translate findings into clear recommendations and actionable improvement plans.
  • Solution Development: Develop practical logistics solutions tailored to client requirements, operational constraints and commercial objectives, supporting both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational improvements.
  • Systems and Technology: Assess and support the implementation or optimisation of logistics systems, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transport Management Systems (TMS), ERP platforms and reporting tools.
  • Project Delivery and Implementation: Support the planning and delivery of logistics improvement projects, including process changes, operational transitions, mobilisation activities and the implementation of new ways of working.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively with clients, operational teams, suppliers and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, facilitate change and achieve agreed objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply recognised improvement methodologies, such as Lean, root cause analysis and process mapping, to drive sustainable operational improvements.
  • Documentation and Training: Develop operational procedures, process documentation and recommendations, and support the training and development of teams to embed improved practices.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build effective working relationships with clients, understand their business challenges and contribute to the identification of further opportunities to improve logistics performance.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Industry Experience: Proven experience in logistics, supply chain operations, operational improvement, project delivery or a consulting environment. A broad understanding of logistics and supply chain activities, potentially including transport, warehousing, distribution, inventory management, procurement and fulfilment.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at different levels, present findings and influence decisions.
  • Personal Attributes: A self-motivated, adaptable and practical approach, with a willingness to work across different operational environments, manage competing priorities and take ownership of deliverables.
  • Analytical Capability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret operational and commercial data and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Experience applying process improvement techniques, such as Lean, root cause analysis, process mapping or value stream mapping.
  • Project Management: The ability to plan and coordinate activities, manage priorities, monitor progress and support the successful delivery of improvement initiatives.
  • Commercial Awareness: An understanding of logistics cost drivers, service requirements, operational trade-offs and the importance of delivering measurable business benefits.
  • Personal Attributes: A self-motivated, adaptable and practical approach, with a willingness to work across different operational environments, manage competing priorities and take ownership of deliverables.

Desirable

  • Education: Degree or equivalent qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management or a related discipline. Relevant practical experience will also be considered.
  • Systems Proficiency: Experience with relevant logistics or business systems, such as WMS, TMS, ERP platforms and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with reporting and data visualisation tools would be advantageous.
